If the storm took your fence down, take photos of the damage and of what caused it before anything is moved, then call your insurer and a fence company. Keep clear of any wire on or near the fence and report it to the electric company.
Half my fence blew down. Who can fix it fast and what will it cost?
We can. Call or text (216) 238-3677 with a photo and a rough length. A section on the ground with broken posts is a major repair, $900 to $2,500 on national 2026 figures. Wind off Lake Erie and heavy wet snow bring down limbs across the whole area in one night, and fence crews fill their schedules quickly after that, so get in touch early.
My dogs are in the yard and the fence is open to the road. What can be done right away?
We can close the opening for the time being. The posts still standing are braced and a temporary panel goes across the gap. The proper repair follows. Tell us on the phone if there are dogs or a pool, and we put the visit ahead of routine work where we can.
Is there an extra charge for emergency or weekend fence repair?
That differs from one company to the next, and not every company works outside normal hours. Ask when you book. A temporary closure now and the permanent repair on a normal working day is usually the cheaper route.
Does homeowners insurance cover a fence knocked down by a storm or a tree?
Often it does, under the cover for other structures on your lot. The answer depends on your policy, your deductible and what caused the damage. Only your insurer or agent can confirm it. On a small repair the deductible can be higher than the bill. We give you an itemized estimate to send in.
My neighbor's tree fell on my fence. Whose insurance pays?
In most cases your own policy covers your own fence, no matter whose tree it was. It may be different if the tree was dead or the owner had been warned it was unsafe. Ask your insurer how they handle it. Where the same material is still made, we can rebuild just the crushed part.
The insurer offered much less than the repair quote because the fence is old. Now what?
Ask for the adjuster's calculation in writing. Many policies pay the depreciated value of an old fence, not the price of a new one. Reply with an itemized estimate. If the gap stays, rebuilding only the damaged run is often what the money covers.
The storm knocked the fence down and my neighbor says it is mine. Who pays?
Whoever owns the fence pays, so first find out whose land it is on. A licensed surveyor can mark the line. A fence company cannot. Ohio does have a partition fence law, Ohio Revised Code Chapter 971, but section 971.03 says it does not apply to lots inside a city, so it does not settle a back yard fence here. Our shared fence page explains more.
