How Much Does Fence Repair Cost in Cleveland?

Fence repair cost in Cleveland for 2026: leaning fences, rotted and frost-heaved posts, sagging gates, latches and bent aluminum.

How Much Does Fence Repair Cost in Cleveland?

Most fence repairs cost $300 to $900 in 2026, going by national figures. Small jobs, such as a board, a latch or a gate adjustment, run $100 to $300. Large ones, with several posts or a fallen section, run $900 to $2,500.

These price ranges are national figures published by HomeGuide for 2026. They are not our quotes. Labor and material prices in Northeast Ohio and the conditions in your yard move the number up or down. Last checked October 2026.

Major$900 to $2,500Several posts, a section on the ground, structural damage

How much does it cost to fix a leaning fence?

The price follows the number of loose posts. A fence leans because its posts have moved or rotted, so a lean with one or two bad posts falls in the standard row above. If most of a run has gone, we price that run as a new section. That is cheaper than paying for one post after another.

Why is my fence leaning, and can it be fixed without replacing it?

In Cleveland the usual reason is frost in wet clay. The soil holds water around the post, it freezes, and a footing that does not reach below the frost is lifted and tipped. Rot at ground level is the second reason for wood, and rust is the second reason for steel near a salted drive. Yes, it can often be fixed. If the boards and rails are sound, we put in new posts and refit the same panels.

How much does it cost to replace a rotted fence post?

Replacing one or two posts is usually a $300 to $900 repair on the national figures. The old post and its concrete come out, a new post goes in below frost depth and the rails are fixed back to it. An oversized old footing, a large root or buried rubble adds time.

My gate sags and will not latch. Repair or replace?

Repair it, most of the time. A sagging gate means the hinge post has shifted, the hinges have worn or the frame is no longer square. We reset the post, fit a brace across the frame or a wheel under a wide driveway gate, and reposition the latch. A new gate is needed only if the frame itself is rotten or bent.

How much does a contractor charge to fix a broken gate latch?

A latch counts as a minor repair: $100 to $300 on national 2026 figures. Most fence companies have a minimum charge for coming out. Tell us about loose pickets or anything else small at the same time, and one visit covers the lot.

My fence posts lifted over the winter and the gate will not close. Can they be reset?

Yes. This is frost heave, and the cure is a deeper footing. Frozen clay grips the sides of a shallow footing and raises it, and soil falls in underneath so it cannot drop back. Hammering the post down does not last. We take the post and footing out and set it again below the frost depth that local building departments use for footings.

My fence line goes wavy every winter. Is it the soil or a bad installation?

It is both, but only one of them can be changed. Wet clay heaves more than soil that drains. A post in that same clay stays put when its footing goes below the frost, has straight sides and has gravel under it for drainage. Rebuilding on shallow posts just buys a few more winters before the wave comes back.

A branch bent my aluminum fence. Do I need a whole new panel?

It depends on how the fence was made. Some aluminum fences are assembled from loose rails and pickets, and the bent pieces can be changed on their own. Others are welded or pre-assembled panels, and the damaged section is replaced whole. Send a photo and we can normally tell you which you have.
